Planting a home garden is a wonderful gift that you can treat yourself to. Nothing says "home" quite like walking out your back door and strolling through your garden. It's such a joy to see the creation and the continuation of life. It's comforting to see the fruits of your labor, the results of your hard work and of your nurturing.

Home gardens are beautiful to look at, and they are relaxing and peaceful. But they don't just shoot up from the ground healthy and ready to go. There are things that you have to keep in mind to obtain the home garden results that you are looking for:

Location of Your Garden:

You need to plot out not only where exactly you are going to plant your seeds and bulbs, but you need to chart out your location. It's a good to have a firm idea as to what you going to plant. Obviously you're not going to plant a bunch of flower bulbs next to or amongst a bed of tomato or cucumbers. This would turn into a gardening nightmare, and it probably wouldn't be healthy for the plants or for your consumption.

So you need to know if your garden will be producing flora, vegetation, or a mixture of both. Because of the unique needs of these forms of life, you have to keep in mind the time of year that you want to do the planting and the growing. It goes without saying the weather conditions can have an adverse effect on the outcome of your garden. But you also have to keep in mind the amount of sunlight that your seeds and bulbs will be exposed to.

You need to make sure that they won't get scorched, or that they will wither from the lack of sun. You will also have to be mindful of the time of year, for watering considerations. Some seeds need lots and lots of water, some will drown under these conditions. On the other hand, some seeds and sprouts will thrive, while some plants don't need very much water at all.

What Are You Planting, and Where?:

You also need to be mindful of what you are planting next to what forms of life. Some plants and flowers complement each other, and help each other grown and stay healthy. On the other hand, some plants and flowers that if planted next to each other will choke each other at the roots, starve each other, or will be poisonous to each other. So it's good for you to educate yourself on which forms of life complement each other. This is otherwise known as companion planting.
